It’s been a manic but amazing five months for Docks Beers. The feedback on our new craft beers and reviews of our taproom have been overwhelmingly positive. The brewery and taproom on King Edward Street has already had visits from thousands of people and more than 300 five star reviews on Facebook. And, to top it all off, ‘Hard Graft’ is now available at 22,000 feet, after Eastern Airways chose our craft beer ahead of any others to be the first craft beer to be offered on their flights.
We must say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us since we opened. Our business only succeeds with your custom, so to every single one of you who has visited our taproom, bought our beers, taken a brewery tour or who have followed us and liked our posts on social media, thank you.
In this article we’ve got loads of Docks Beers news, exclusive offers and we announce the winner of the Eastern Airways competition. Sound good? Let’s get started…
Let’s kick things off with some big news… At the beginning of March we’ll be releasing ‘Overtime’ – Docks Beers’ first ever craft lager! The brew is currently conditioning in one of our fermentation tanks and we are really excited for you to try it.
‘Overtime’s’ launch will be historic as it will be the first lager ever to be brewed in Grimsby. Like our other beers, the name pays homage to the blood, sweat and tears shed by the people of Grimsby and Dockers from around the world.
Would you like to be one of the first people to sample ‘Overtime’ and tell us what you think of it? As a recipient of this newsletter your name is already in the hat to win an invitation to an exclusive tasting event. Ten pairs of VIP tickets will be up for grabs and each pair will receive a six-pack of Docks Beers. Keep an eye on your email and our social media channels for more information about winners.
This is the first (but by no means the last) competition that’s exclusive to recipients of our Updates. Stay subscribed for the chance of winning more exclusive prizes and event invitations.
If you’re reading this it’s odds on you’re a beer fan, so the chances are that you’ve probably downloaded the ‘Untappd’ app already, right? If not you might want to get it on to your phone.
For those who don’t know, ‘Untappd’ is a beer sharing app. You can check in and score our beers, ‘collect’ badges including the Docks Beers ‘Docks Punch in’, ‘like’ our brewery and keep up to date with all the latest goings on in our taproom.
We’re pretty chuffed that we already have an Untappd rating of 3.97 out of 5. That score ranks Docks Beers as the 6th best brewery in the UK! We’re already ahead of some of the coolest and some of the most well known breweries in the country, but we need 1,000 check-ins to officially register on Untappd’s top rated list.
Can you help take us a little closer to our target?
Boy, have we got a date for your diary! On Saturday 23rd March award-winning brewers Thornbridge are doing a tap-takeover in our taproom.
Thornbridge are one of the UK’s pioneers of the craft beer movement and have been brewing top beers for years. We’re stoked that they’ve agreed to come and share them with us. We will have their beers in keg and cask, raffle prizes and music.
*In cask – AMPM, Bronx, Jaipur
*In keg – Bliss Point, Green Mountain, Strawberry Lucaria. Florida Weiss and Lukas X 2
People of Grimsby: Do. Not. Miss. Out.
Have you been to see how we make our beers yet? Our brewery tours on the first Saturday of every month are going down a storm and we’re now booked up until May!
They have been so popular that during February and March, we’re offering private tours of our brewery on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
If you have a group of 8-12 mates or work friends who like a beer (or two) or are just interested in the whole brewing process, this is great way way to spend an evening.
The private tour costs from £25 per person and it includes beer sampling (of course) and wood-fired sourdough pizza from Tredici (more on those later on).
You will soon be able to buy our beers and merch through our website. Very, very soon.
That means that the likes of Hard Graft, Graveyard Shift and Never Say Die will all be available to buy online for the first time.
So, wherever you’re in London, New York, or Scunthorpe you’ll now be able to get a little taste of home.
As well as our beer, you’ll also be able to order our official merchandise – caps, beanies and t-shirts.
We expect the web shop to be live by the time our next update hits your inbox.
It’s good news for Rugby fans, as we’re screening all remaining Six Nations rugby games in the Docks Beers taproom.

Our good friends at Tredici are offering 10% discount to anyone who quotes ‘Docks 10’ until the end of March – both on takeaway and eating in.
If you like pizza (and let’s face it, who doesn’t?), Tredici pizzeria comes highly recommended. We speak from experience as they have provided their wood-fired sourdough pizzas for every brewery tour day so far. Go check them out at www.tredici.co.uk and don’t forget to holler ‘Docks 10’ on your next visit or delivery order.
On Friday 29th March it’s our turn to do a tap takeover. Holton-le-Clay will get to experience some of our most popular beers in the Royal Oak pub
For one night only, Holton-le-Clayers will be able to pop along to their local and chose from a range of Docks Beers on tap and in cans, as well as some Axholme ales on draft.
Watch out the Royal Oak regulars, we’re coming for you!
Did you enter our competition with Eastern Airways on social media? Because we now have a winner…
The competition was launched after the airline selected ‘Hard Graft’ as the first craft pale ale to be served to passengers travelling between Humberside and Aberdeen. Quite the honour. The competition’s prize was two free return flights from Humberside to Aberdeen and, of course, a fridge full of ‘Docks Beers’.
And, without further ado, we are delighted to announce that Ashlie Hubbard is the lucky winner!
Well done, Ashlie… get your passport ready!
Before we sign off, we wanted to talk about our grand plans for upstairs here at Docks Beers in Grimsby.
Just above the taproom and brewery is 3,500 square feet of beautiful open-plan space with vaulted ceilings and arched windows. We’re planning to convert if for use as a live comedy, music, exhibition venue as well as a space for other cool events. Beer festival, anyone?
Adaptable to many uses, the new first floor will feature a stage, bar and space for 200 people seated and 400 standing.
We think it will give Grimsby’s cultural scene a huge boost and attract “high calibre” acts from across the world of arts.
We’ll keep you updated with the progress as it happens, but it’s fair to say we’re pretty excited about it.
Okay beer fans, that’s it for this month. Remember to keep an eye on our social media channels for exclusive offers, new products and events. We’ll leave you with this thought…
