The Docks Beers Update | April ’19

Welcome to our monthly update with all the latest Docks Beers news.

Since the last update we’ve launched ‘Overtime’, the first lager ever to be brewed in Grimsby, and hosted a really successful tap takeover event by Thornbridge.

A big, big ‘thank you’ to everyone who’s been to our taproom to sample our new lager, supported one of our events or joined Untappd and left a positive review of our beers (we’ve noticed that we’ve shot up to 741 check-ins) in that time.

In this article we’ve got news of our first ever collaboration, a new tap takeover and a few dates for your diary. Ready? Let’s go…

Beats in the Brewery

We were treated to an evening of quality tunes on Friday 8th March when Mark Newby and Craig Wilson from Fatwax45 were in da house.

The two Grimsby DJs spun some of the funkiest beats we’d ever heard in the taproom and we were chuffed to bits (and, if we’re being honest, quite shocked) at the bumper Friday night turn out.

The success of the night got us thinking that we need to do more Beats in the Brewery nights, so expect a few more themed music evenings in the future.

The Fatwax boys, though, will be back for another naughty Friday night session soon.

Sunday Service

Move over 6 Music. Our bar team have started playing their favourite albums from start to finish every Sunday afternoon at Docks Beers.

Our ‘Sunday Service’ afternoons run from 1pm until 6pm (closing time) and have already featured classic albums from the likes of The Clash, Joy Division and Radiohead, Irish-themed albums on St Patrick’s Day and iconic movie soundtracks as well.

If you’re interested in experiencing this excellent Sunday afternoon vibe some time, here’s what the team will be playing throughout April. You’re welcome.

Hard Graft in Westminster

Last month Lincolnshire’s best craft beer hit the bar in the UK’s seat of government. In an effort to speed up Brexit, we drove the Docks Beers pick-up down to the House of Commons on 12th March with six casks of Hard Graft. It was the guest beer in the Strangers Bar for that week. Unsurprisingly, the MPs drank all 430 pints of Hard Graft in two days. So much for the “Meaningful Vote” which was taking place that day…

Thanks to Melanie Onn for putting our beer on Parliament’s radar. It was great to see Grimsby in the political spotlight for the second time in a week. Five days previously the PM had paid a visit to our town.

Beer collaboration with Brew York

We are very proud to announce that we’ll be doing our first ever collaboration with our friends at Brew York.

It was an easy decision to choose Brew York to collaborate with because we love their beers (as do our taproom customers) and they were really helpful to Dock Beers when we were first starting out.

Very soon we’ll be announcing the style of beer we’ll be brewing and launching the design of the cans, but while you’re waiting, why don’t you check out brewyork.co.uk or even pay their brilliant brewery in the centre of York a visit? They have a beautifully industrial Tap Room, stunning riverside Beer Garden, oh, and their beers aren’t bad either!

Brew York Tap Takeover + Cheese Cave

Speak of the devil… Brew York will also be doing a tap takeover at Docks Beers on Friday 12th April!

Their awesome beers will be available on six of our keg lines and four hand pulls from 12pm until, er… late!

Craft beer connoisseurs will be able meet the Brew York brewers (and founders) Wayne and Lee from 5pm and there will be chance to win exclusive merch and beer.

And if you need another reason to come along on Friday 12th, the Cheese Cave will be outside serving their delicious grilled cheese sandwiches and raclette to help soak up all of that lovely Brew York beer.

Online shop still loading…

We have had loads of enquiries from all over the UK from people who want to buy our merch.  All we need is a way of selling it online… and we’re nearly there.

As you’re reading these words, our people are constructing a webshop so that will allow you to buy our products from literally anywhere… Cool, eh?

When it’s done, you guys will be able to buy our beers in packs of six, 12 or 24 as well as Docks Beers merch.

If you haven’t already seen on our social channels, we’ve now got t-shirts, caps, beanies, tool boxes (no, not normal ones) and glassware available.

As soon as it’s live we will let you know.

Upstairs: An update

We’ve got positive news to share as planning permission has now officially been granted!

That means that in the coming weeks we’ll be able to start work on making the space above our tap room into a venue that can host live music, comedy, exhibitions and significant events.

We want to be able to attract high calibre acts to Docks Beers to help put Grimsby back on the cultural map and we think the 3,500 square foot room above the tap room is the place to do this.

That’s all we’ve got for this update, but if you want to keep up abreast of our latest news, offers, products and events throughout the month, make sure you’re following us on social media. But before we go, we’ll leave you to ponder this…
