There goes July! And it was another awesome month. We won the best pub/bar of the year at the Grimsby Live Food & Drink Awards 2019. Our mobile bar went on its first outing – to Meridian Park Showground for the outdoor screening of Bohemian Rhapsody. We ran our first ever promotion in the Grimsby Telegraph, hosted the Orsted 10K apres-run meeting and the Tiny Rebel Tap Takeover was another heaving success.
Coming up in August we have the launch of a Docks Beers Gin, a Magic Rock Collab brew, along with a Magic Rock Tap Takeover and Meet The Brewer. A plethora of street food vendors are incoming – including the return of Slap and Pickle and the debut appearance of Little Bao Boy. And on Sunday 25th, Dockument will be bringing in DJs.
Read on for the lowdown.
Incoming collab klaxon. We are thrilled to announce that on Fri 2nd August Mike and Lewis will be joined in the Docks Brewery by Magic Rock’s Head Brewer (and legend) Stuart Ross.
Together they will create something very special for our first collab with one of the UK’s finest craft breweries. The icing on the cake is that the brew will take place on the same day as a Magic Rock Meet The Brewer and Tap Takeover.
We will release the top secret details of the collab brew later in August. Keep an eye on our social channels for info on the beers that will be in the TTO.
WE WON!
The inaugural Grimsby Live Food & Drink Awards 2019 took place at the Stallingborough Grange Hotel to honour those who dedicate their businesses to the industry.
The Docks Beers team attended en masse and during a special dinner and awards ceremony we were thrilled to be presented with Pub/Bar of the Year 2019. In each category, nominations were sought from readers of the Grimsby Telegraph and three businesses or individuals were short-listed by a panel of judges and visited by a mystery shopper to determine the overall winners.
Winning our category in the face of stiff competition from Curious Cat and Arthur’s is a great reflection on our incredibly hard grafting bar team who work tirelessly to keep our customers happy. We are grateful to them and all those customers who nominated us for the award. It is, we hope, the first of many.
Foodtrucks are coming thick and fast in August!
We’re pleased to have Little Bao Boy debuting at Docks on Fri 16th and Sat 17th. For those uninitiated, a Bao (also known as steamed buns or baozi) is a type of filled bun or bread-like dumpling roll. There are loads of varieties of fillings – meat or vegetarian. Take a look at their instagram account – the bao’s looks lush.
August also sees the return of Tredici on Fri Aug 2nd and Sat 3rd. Cheese Cave are back with their mouthwatering grilled cheese sandwiches on Fri 9th and Sat 10th. And – the news you have all been waiting for – Slap & Pickle will be back for a whole weekend Fri 24th to 26th serving up their crazy good dirty burgers and loaded fries.
Our mobile Docks Beers bar debuted successfully at a couple of outdoor events in July and it will be pouring at an event near you soon.
This steel framed monster is equipped with 8 taps and you can expect to see it popping up all over Lincolnshire.
It will also be appearing at UK festivals including the Wakefield Beer Festival in September and the Nottingham Craft Beer festival in June 2020.
We’re honoured to have been invited by Brew York to be a featured brewer at KegFest on 23rd-25th Aug
The festival features a huge selection of kegged beer, including exclusive pours, and ‘Meet the Brewer’ events with breweries around the globe – including us and Amundsen on the same day – August 23rd! There’s live music plus a whole host of street food vendors. Tickets only £3 in advance, click below to buy
In case you missed it – located in York’s bustling city centre, just off Walmgate, Brew York is a showpiece ten barrel brewery and tap room. They don’t just produce great beer. Like us they have an onsite shop, visitor centre and a charming beer garden overlooking the river Foss. Now with the add-on location of their Beer Hall next door they boast the largest and most interesting beer, lager and cider range in the city of York and their in-house kitchen produces a wide variety of food including incredible burgers to Korean style sides.
If you head over to York on Bank Holiday weekend make sure you are back at Docks on Sunday 25th August.
Because Dockument is back with (count them) FIVE DJs: Fatwax45 (Waxnerds), Fast T. (DMC/HullFinest), Tee (Dockument, Johnny Regan (Sunday Soul Sessions) and James Gantz (Waxnerds).
They will be spinning an eclectic mix of tunes on the wheels of steel from 2pm till late. These guys always smash it and Dockument is fast becoming a bit of a cult party so if you haven’t been yet make sure you check it out.
Dock Master Gin. You heard it here first.
We are pleased to announce that August will see the launch of our own gin. We have called it Dock Master and it is distilled for us in Staffordshire. It’s then infused with sea buckthorn berries which gives it a delicious citrus hint.
We cannot wait for it to hit the taproom as our house gin. It will also be available to buy from our on-site shop. The bottle design features a Docks landscape featuring a particularly iconic building. No prizes for guessing which.
And, following our announcement in last month’s update, we can report that the initial (small) batch of Docks cycle jerseys have arrived. They look awesome and we will be sharing details of how you can get one on our social media channels in the very near future.
That’s it for now. Don’t forget to keep an eye on the ‘What’s on’ section of our website and follow us on social (@docksbeers) for all the latest news and offers. We’ll leave you with these beery words:
