The Docks Beers Update | May ’19

Hello and welcome to the latest update from Docks Beers.

Man, did we have some fun last month! First we found out that we’d won the Grimsby CAMRA Winter Pub of the Season award; then we hosted a brilliant taproom takeover by our friends, Brew York; and they were followed by an action-packed Easter weekend which included a visit from Alfred Enderby’s ‘Ro Ro’ boat and the launch of the delicious dubbel inspired ‘Double Agent’ from our other brewery Axholme Brewing Co!

This month we’ve got even more in the pipeline, including another exciting launch and unmissable taproom takeover.

New brewer – he’s one of our own

We’re thrilled to welcome a new brewer to our team – Lewis Birch.

Lewis will be working hard with Head Brewer Mike Richards and cooking up a storm in the brewery.

He is a son of Grimsby and has cut his teeth at Brewdog, Magic Rock, and lately Beatnikz Republic in Manchester. Having developed his skills at some of the UK’s best breweries we’re absolutely made up to have secured his services.

If you see Lewis around the brewery make sure to say hi.

Controlled Explosion Keg Launch
Friday 10th May

If you’ve already made plans for this Friday 10th May: cancel them. That’s because we’re launching ‘Controlled Explosion’ on draft in the taproom and we don’t think you’ll want to miss out. The beer will pour on keg at Docks Beers (and at Brew York) throughout May until it runs out. The can launch will follow later in the month.

This gorgeous 5.5% Raspberry Saison beer is the product of our first ever collaboration – with Brew York.  Essentially we carried out a controlled explosion in our Grimsby brewery. We cleared the area, attached a raspberry charge to a saison bomb and detonated it to create this incendiary beer and we can’t wait to let you sample the fruits of our labour. It’s brewed with Vienna, Maris Otter and wheat malt and fermented with a Belgian saison yeast strain for a funky, spicy beer. To this we have added lemon zest, coriander seeds and huge amounts of raspberries to create a fruity taste explosion.

Since the Brew York guys were in town for their tap takeover last month we’ve been counting the days until this beer is ready. So get down to the taproom this on Friday for an unmissable launch. And for the icing on the cake we will have the Cheese Cave wagon outside our taproom, serving up their delicious grilled cheese sandwiches and raclette.

See you Friday then, yeah?

Okay, well that’s all we’ve got for now. For more updates throughout the month, make sure you’re following us on social media. But before we go, here’s a quote from one of the godfathers of Western Philosophy… about beer. We think he was onto something!

“He is a wise man who invented beer.” Plato
