In the next installment of our series about Grimbarians who have made an impact in the craft beer industry, the spotlight moves to Paul Cowdery, or as many will know him – ‘Sid’. Paul is a senior Account Manager in Impulse Sales at Brewdog. For those of you who have been living under a rock BrewDog is that multinational brewery and pub chain based in Ellon, Scotland.
Paul has helped and advised Docks Beers on many occasions since we opened in 2018. He has been a brilliant sounding board and councilor as we have grown. So cheers Paul. We owe a lot to you!
“I was looking for a change from selling Fizzy Golden Slush that had become more of a commodity than an enjoyable drinking experience. I popped into the BrewDog Brewery, the ‘DogTap Bar’ near Aberdeen and saw the passion and energy these guys had for all things ‘Craft’. I had my first drink of Punk IPA in that bar, and from then, I was hooked!”
“I still work at Brewdog some 6 years later. I’m a Senior Account Manager responsible for some of the largest convenience and online customers we have in the UK. My day-to-day tasks are all aspects of Account Management (go figure), these are sales, supply chain, forecasting, marketing, finance control and not forgetting the all important beer sampling events, woooo!”
“I want people to recognise craft beer as a beer category that is here to stay, it’s not some alcopop fly-by-night. The beer world is begging to be disrupted (the top 10 brewers in the world have been going for over 100+ years) and if that takes small breweries in Ellon, Grimsby or anywhere in the world then I’m game for the challenge!”
“The bloody solid work ethic that coming from this great place (yep, it’s called Great Grimsby for a reason) instills into you. I think that if you have the values and a work ethic that, coming from a place like Grimsby is in your DNA, then you’ll be fine in life.”
“Firstly Docks Beers – I am SO proud of what this amazing team have done to put craft beer, funky food and entertainment on the beer map of the UK. Secondly, look at what Grimsby and the Docks area has done over the past decade or so: we’ve pivoted from relying on a declining fishing industry to being the UK leader in sustainable energy support and maintenance. If that doesn’t inspire you to look around and try something new instead of what you have done (or drunk) in the past then I don’t know what will.”
