Free Art Exhibition – YOU Are Great Grimsby

The 'YOU Are Great Grimsby' Free Art Exhibition @ Docks Academy

Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd January 2022

To celebrate this year’s Great Grimsby Day on January 22nd, we are hosting a free art exhibition in Docks Academy on Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd January. The exhibition is called ‘YOU are Great Grimsby’ because it will feature artworks of Grimsby by many talented local artists in various formats.
 
“In January last year, on Great Grimsby Day, we asked our followers to post any Grimsby related art on their social media and tag in Docks Beers. We posted this community style content to encourage all forms of art hoping to bring a bit of positivity during lockdown. We had hundreds of amazing entries from schools, photographers, poets, Lego fans, graphic designers and more. We’ve had a hard job choosing around 50 different pieces including painting, drawing, graphics, photography, live MUA face painting, recorded music, digital. We always intended this artwork to be exhibited and thought Great Grimsby Day 2022 would be the perfect time. This is a free community event for all the family, to showcase how great Grimsby is while supporting the local art scene,” Kate Douglas, Docks Beers' social media manager.
 
The ‘YOU Are Great Grimsby’ exhibition will be open from midday to 6pm on both Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd January and is free for people of all ages. Along with various static artwork on display, there will be live body and face painting, art sessions with Rachel Spencer, a digital presentation on the big screen and a ‘Grimsby’ music playlist playing throughout the weekend. The Docks Academy bar will be serving drinks along with the brewery taproom, and Mockingbird street food will also be open for those that wish to enjoy a drink and a bite to eat. Unfortunately Docks Academy is not yet wheelchair accessible, currently the only way of entering is via one flight of stairs.
