Docks Beers to celebrate Pride, Loundly and Proudly.
To celebrate and raise awareness of Pride month in June, Docks Beers is showing its support for the LGBTQ+ community by launching a series of beers named after four inspirational figures of the LGBTQ+ movement, and declaring its bars and venue safe spaces, and zones of zero tolerance to any hatred.
Bar Supervisor Jenny Shenton, the driver behind the project, explains why the brewery is so committed to this cause, “Docks Beers and Docks Academy have always tried to be a safe space, but we feel now is the time to really underline that we have zero-tolerance of hatred towards anyone. Next month we particularly want to show our solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, a community I and other members of the team are proud to be part of.”
Shahram Shadan, Docks Beers Director, explains why the King Edward Street brewery and venue is ardently supportive of this campaign, “It’s a responsibility for businesses to create environments that are safe spaces for both customers and employees. At Docks, we firmly believe that hate and bigotry towards anyone should not be tolerated. Jenny’s idea to shine a spotlight on the Pride celebration inspired us and made us question our own space and how we can be better. Over the last few weeks, we have undertaken awareness training, led by Jenny, about LGBTQ+ with many of our staff. This has allowed us to gain a better insight into the challenges faced by this community. We want to be able to welcome anyone to the Docks Beers in an inclusive way and make it a place where everyone feels safe. We are making information available to our customers and also undertaking a pledge to become a safe space for all patrons by publicly declaring a zero-tolerance policy for any sort of hatred. We want our customers to know that if they experience any prejudice in any of our premises they should make our staff or security-aware and it will be dealt with swiftly and accordingly.”
On June 10th, we will be launching four beers – Our Proud Collection – named after LGBTQ+ legends, that fought for our rights and changed the face of the movement to where we are today.
They are:
* Silvia Rivera – Light Lager with Lemon. Brewed with Pale lager malt and torrified rice lashings of lemon zest. This is a super crisp and easy-going beer 4.7%
* Marsha P. Johnson – An American pale ale with orange and passion fruit. Bursting with aromas of ripe passion fruit or zesty Valencian oranges backed by a hearty addition of American and European hops. 6%
* Gilbert Baker – A mixed berry sour which takes its lead from German-style lower gravity sours but has been flipped into overdrive with a cocktail of berries 4.3%
* Brenda Howard – Hemp oil IPA which is a hazy jazzed up IPA featuring some of our favourite dank American hops as well as a dose of hemp oil 4.2%
We would love as many people as possible to come to the Church, try the beers and help us show that the community we have here at Docks is a friendly, non-judgemental space for all!
Docks is for everyone. We are committed to promoting a safe space for everyone.
Whilst it is important to show our support during this month, we want to re-affirm our zero-tolerance policy of hate 365 days a year, every year. If any customer is ever in our taproom, or upstairs in the Academy and experiences any prejudice, please make our staff or security aware of this and it will be dealt with accordingly.
We look forward to seeing you here sometime soon.
