The Docks Beers Update

May 2021

For all the latest brewery and taproom news

Ciao April. Instead of your usual showers we got wall to wall sunshine – what a perfect way to restart outdoor drinking. Thanks to all you hardy souls who braved our beer garden.

This month there’s a whole lot more to get excited about so, let’s stop beating about the bush and get on with the update, starting with Docks Beers making the national press at the weekend…

STOP THE PRESS!

Docks Beers was in the Independent on Friday 7th 2021, featuring in Robbie Meechan’s very readable Home Towns article about why Grimsby isn’t so grim after all.

Thanks to Robbie for saying such nice things. Also congrats to the other local businesses mentioned; EBB & FLO Living and Healing Manor Hotel.

INDOOR BOOKINGS

It’s almost time to put away those wooly hats and blankets, everyone. Because from Wednesday 19th May, people will be able to sit INSIDE and drink pints. Hallelujah!

We are now taking bookings in the taproom and brewing area for groups of up to six people. This is from 12 – 9pm Wednesday to Saturday and 12 – 6pm on Sundays. You can also book a table upstairs in the Docks Academy, but it will only be open on Fridays (3 – 11pm) and Saturdays (12 – 11pm), starting Friday 21st May. We will be following all Covid protocols and social distancing will take place in all areas – just like last year. Once again, the rule of six will apply to all bookings.

Please note that at the moment we are only taking bookings up until Sunday 20th June.

MAY STREET FOOD

Manzoku were the first street food vendors to visit the church since October last year and last weekend Broke ‘n Bone (formerly Little Urban BBQ) were in town, serving up Texas-style smoked meats.

Grimsby’s own The Greek Shack will now be with us from the 14th to 16th May. On 21st to 23rd May, Taste of Budapest by Hun Street Kitchen are back again. Their goulash and hungarian-style chicken kebabs will take you to the bustling Budapest food markets from where they originated.

Then over the final bank holiday weekend starting Friday 28th May, grab a ‘smashed burger’ by Takin’ Care of Burgers. Think they just do burgers? Well, you Ain’t seen nothing yet (sorry). Their hotdogs, vegan chilli dogs and homemade skin on fries are a joy to behold.

CLAP FISH GLASSWARE

Our insanely popular Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Fish glass is now back in-stock … just in time to toast last week’s long awaited take over of Grimsby Town FC. Jason Stockwood and Andrew Pettit – we salute you!

The glassware is the companion to the sold out 4.4% hazy session pale ale we brewed to celebrate our local football team and herald #ANewEra at Blundell Park.

To celebrate takeover day, we went mad and offered a £1 a can deal on Clap Fish cans. We promptly sold out of the beer within 2 hours. But fear not – the glass is in stock aplenty and ready for a belated takeover toast. The glass features the name of the beer and the geometric fish pattern from the can artwork. It holds 15.5 oz and 440ml of beer and/or G&T fits comfortably in it!

MEET SAM DENFORD

Say ‘Hi’ to Sam Denford who joined our brewery team last week.

Sam is our new Brewery Assistant, so that means he’ll be helping our brew house team with a bit of anything and everything!

He’s 22, a born and bred Grimbarian and you might recognise him from his previous roles as a barman at Beach and Barracuda. Sam loves to skate (longboard), mountain bike and he’s a fan of rugby – particularly the Six Nations. He told us he’s excited to learn how to make beer and is even more excited to get to drink a pint at the end of it!

The beanie and T-shirt Sam is sporting are part of our classic merch range – if you need these in your wardrobe pop over to our shop.

That’s all we have to share today, but let’s drink to this quote about beer from a little French bloke called Napoleon.

“On victory, you deserve beer, in defeat, you need it.”
