We’ve just about sorted through all of your Black Friday orders (thanks for those) and now ‘It’s the most wonderful time of the year’, so we thought we’d give you a quick update on what’s happening at the Church of Beer in December 2021.
Vegan or bird, you decide. That’ll be the question on everyone’s lips when the new street food venture, Mockingbird, launches next week!
Mockingbird is a permanent street food business that’s going to be serving up delicious chicken and vegan-chicken fast food from the new state-of-the-art kitchen container outside of Docks Beers. It’s premise is simple – to produce the highest-quality street food for chicken and seitan lovers alike. From amazing real Buffalo wings to mouthwatering seitan tenders and mock chicken wraps, Mockingbird places as much emphasis on their handmade ‘mock’ dishes as the real chicken. Their menu features tenders, wings and wraps, the dirtiest of vegan loaded fries and mind-blowing meat free sauces. They are also serving the best cup of coffee in Grimsby having partnered with Extract Coffee Roasters.
The Mockingbird kitchen will be open from noon till 9pm from Wednesday through Sunday every week. Initially, it will be serving people drinking in our taproom or walk-ups who go to the hatch, but soon it will be available for local home delivery and click and collect as well. Watch this space!
The Academy is now in full festive swing after the rip roaring success of our first Christmas party night on Friday (tickets still available for Thursday 9th, book here).
So our customers can make the most of the beautifully decorated Docks Academy (seriously, you need to check it out) we have opened up table bookings in the Academy on Fri 17, Wed 22, Thu 23, Fri 24 December so if you haven’t arranged a Christmas party or are looking for somewhere festive for drinks with family and friends come and join us in the Academy. The space looks amazing!
Do not adjust your TV set mobile. Last week Docks Beers started to sell sausages after collaborating with one of Grimsby’s oldest and most iconic names, John Pettit and Sons Family Butchers, to relaunch their famous Lincolnshire sausage!
Pettits served the people of Grimsby for well over a century, so it’s a real honour to be chosen as their exclusive sales partner. The sausages – which are based on the original recipe which dates back to 1810 – are exclusively on sale in our taproom and can be bought either over the counter or our website via collect and collect while we work out the best UK wide delivery options. Keep your eyes peeled for mail order soon.
People used to come from all over town to buy these sausages, especially at Christmas, when the queues to their old shop used to span the length of Bethlehem Street. Now you can buy a pack of ‘Lincolnshire Sixes’ the next time you swing by the taproom for a pint or online via the button below…
We recently launched our latest beer, Inside Job – a 7.1% Double Dry Hopped Dip Hop Imperial India Pale Lager (go figure) which basically means it’s a craft lager with a higher ABV than you’re expecting!
Inside Job is bursting with soft and juicy aromatics from Hallertau Blanc, Idaho 7, Wai-Iti and Minstrel hops. The lean malt body and cold fermentation promotes a ridiculous level of crushability you’d expect from a Lager whilst masquerading as an IPA. Want to know more? Listen to our head brewer Mike Richard wax lyrical about the beer and collab with Heist Brew Co by clicking here.
This beer has received some cracking reviews… but have YOU tried it yet?
With the curtain about to close on 2021, we thought we’d look ahead to what treats our Academy team has already plugged in for next year.
Our first show of 2022 is the rearranged sold out performance of Bouncers on Wednesday 12th January. However, if you would like to see this outrageous and brilliant stage comedy by the acclaimed playwright John Godber, there are still tickets available to the Thursday 13th January show. In February we have our first Red Herring Comedy Club of the year and music from Space, one of the most well-loved indie bands of the 90s. In March we have our first ever spoken word gig when award-winning spoken word performer Luke Wright is in town, there’s another Red Herring Comedy Club night and renowned Blues pianist Dom Pipkin and his band ‘Dom & The Ikos’ bring their authentic New Orleans inspired rhythm and blues to King Edward Street! March also sees the return of BEERLESQUE – a fabulous night of burlesque and cabaret hosted by Kiki deVille. Indie band October Drift will headline the Academy as part of their UK tour in April a few days before we enjoy another great line up at the Red Herring Comedy Club.
Oh My God It’s The Church and Sex Pistols Exposé & The Clashed are also confirmed for summer gigs, but watch this space for more exciting announcements soon.
