We’re raising a glass to welcome Tom Hanson as the new Head Brewer at Docks Beers.
Tom’s story is a fascinating one, stretching from North Lincolnshire to the bustling craft beer scene of Hong Kong, and now back home to Grimsby where he’s ready to make waves in our brewhouse.
Originally from just outside Scunthorpe, Tom began his professional brewing career at Young Master Brewery in Hong Kong. Over more than seven years, he rose through the ranks to become Director of Brewing Operations, leading a diverse team across two brewery sites.
During that time, Tom oversaw the launch of hundreds of beers, from core range classics to innovative collaborations with world-renowned breweries including Cloudwater (UK), Lervig (Norway), and Northern Monk (UK). His leadership helped Young Master secure dozens of international awards, including the title of Barth Haas Champion Large Size Brewery of Asia (2020).
After nearly a decade overseas, Tom returned to the UK. Since then, he’s been waiting for the right opportunity to bring his skills, creativity and passion for brewing back to the local scene and we’re thrilled that he’s chosen Docks Beers as his new home.
Tom brings over eight years of experience across all areas of brewing, from recipe development and yeast management to packaging oversight and team leadership. His track record speaks for itself: improving brewing efficiency, boosting quality,and creating award-winning beers that have travelled the globe.
For Tom, it’s not just about great beer — it’s about great people too. He’s passionate about mentoring and developing brewing teams, fostering collaboration and pushing the boundaries of what a brewery can achieve.
With Tom at the helm of our brewhouse, we’re excited about what the future holds. Expect innovation, creativity, and of course, more of the bold, characterful beers you know and love from Docks Beers.
